Light entrepreneur salary calculator
Calculate how much of the amount invoiced through an invoicing service a light entrepreneur takes home. The calculator deducts the service fee, tax withholding and, for those with YEL insurance, the health insurance contribution and YEL contribution using 2026 rates.
The service fee is usually 3–8% of the invoice amount excluding VAT. Add any insurance fee to that.

How the calculator works
The invoicing service deducts its service fee from the invoice amount excluding VAT. If you have YEL insurance, it also deducts the employer's health insurance contribution of 1.91 %, so the gross salary is the remaining amount divided by 1.0191, as required by the Finnish Tax Administration's guidance.
Tax withholding according to the tax card is deducted from the gross salary. No employee pension contribution or unemployment insurance contribution is charged to a light entrepreneur.
In the calculator, the YEL contribution (24.4 %) is deducted as a percentage of salary, as invoicing services do. The pension company invoices the contribution based on the confirmed work income. YEL is mandatory when your estimated work income is at least 9,423.09 € per year.
The calculator gives an indicative estimate and is not tax or investment advice. Check your own situation with an accountant or the Finnish Tax Administration. Find an accountant
Frequently asked questions
It depends on the service fee, tax rate and YEL insurance. For example, from a €1,000 invoice excluding VAT, with an 8% service fee and a 20% tax rate, you take home €736 without YEL insurance.
Yes, when your estimated work income is at least 9,423.09 € a year and the work continues for at least four months. YEL insurance accrues your pension and determines your sickness allowance and unemployment benefits.
No. The service fee is not taxable income for a light entrepreneur, so it cannot be deducted in your personal taxation.
When you invoice regularly and have expenses, a sole trader business can leave you with more, because no service fee is paid and expenses can be deducted in taxation. Compare with the invoicing calculator.
