How the calculator works
The calculator deducts business expenses and the YEL contribution (24.4 % of work income) from invoicing excluding VAT. A 5% entrepreneur deduction is made from the profit.
A sole trader's income is split into capital income and earned income: 20 % of the previous year's net assets is capital income, taxed at 30%, and the rest is earned income.
Taxes on earned income are calculated using the 2026 rules with the municipal and church tax rates of your municipality of residence, and include state income tax, Yle tax, health insurance contributions and the basic and earned income deductions. The calculation matches the Finnish Tax Administration's tax rate calculator. Other income and deductions are not taken into account.
The calculator gives an indicative estimate and is not tax or investment advice. Check your own situation with an accountant or the Finnish Tax Administration. Find an accountant
